Summary
Konnect Live uses cloud based industry leading email validation to ensure high deliverability and a low bounce rate in order to maintain high customer contact and a high reputation with other email servers.
Reputation
An email sender's reputation is a score that an Internet Service Provider (ISP) assigns to an organization that sends email. It's a crucial component of email deliverability. The higher the score, the more likely an ISP will deliver emails to the inboxes of recipients on their network. It is therefore crucial to validate emails before sending them in order to maintain a high reputation.
Volume
Our cloud based supplier processes over 11 billion emails per month and uses the results from sending all of those emails to form the backbone of knowledge about good and bad email addresses.
MX Record Checks
Checks are performed to ensure the recipient domain does have a valid MX host.
Provider Checks
Checks are performed to ensure the MX provider is a known provider.
Domain Checks
Checks are performed to ensure the recipient domain hasn't previously been flagged as high risk and that based on WHOIS, the domain hasn't been recently created.
Mailbox Checks
Checks are performed to ensure the mailbox exists on the recipient email server.
Address Checks
Checks are performed to ensure the email address isn't one of the following:
- A generic address e.g. info@... or sales@...
- The address isn't a 'disposable address'. Disposable address are temporary, generally one time use addresses.
Validation Results
Result | Description |
Deliverable | The recipient address is considered to be valid and should accept email. |
Undeliverable | The recipient address is considered to be invalid and will result in a bounce if sent to. |
Do not send | The recipient address is considered to be highly risky and will negatively impact sending reputation if sent to. |
Catch_all | The validity of the recipient address cannot be determined as the provider accepts any and all email regardless of whether or not the recipient’s mailbox exists. |
Unknown | The validity of the recipient address cannot be determined for a variety of potential reasons. Please refer to the associated ‘reason’ array returned in the response. |
Validation Result Risk Profiles
Risk |
High |
Medium |
Low |
Unknown |
The risk profile is determined from all of the validation steps set out above.
Konnect Live Rules
Konnect Live uses the results to email validation above and performs its own additional processes to ensure the best possible email delivery.
Fix Typos
Many email addresses arrive with typos (either deliberate or legitimate) such as ...@hotmail.couk or ...@hotmail.oc.uk which are processed and corrected before the address is formally validated.
Whitelist
Client domains are whitelisted to ensure all emails always get sent to client users.
Validation Results
Konnect Live applies the following rules based on the results above. If any of these rules are met then the email is sent, otherwise it's flagged as an invalid email address and not sent:
- If the Result is Deliverable and the Risk is Low.
- If the Result is Deliverable and Risk is Medium but the Provider is Unknown.
- If the recipient domain is in a whitelist.
Results
Prior to applying these email validation rules the provider reported bounce rate was over 10% which puts email reputation at risk at which point internet email servers will start rejecting any emails sent. Since applying the validation rules, of the emails that pass validation and are sent, the bounce rate is 0.1% (100x improvement).
