Cases move through a series of States as they are worked on and completed. To help summarise the states in reporting each state belongs to a Reporting State.

| Duplicate | Duplicate | Case marked as a Duplicate |
| In Progress | In Progress | Case is In Progress |
| More Information Required | More Info Required | Case is waiting for More Information |
| New | New | Case is New |
| Resolved - Not Upheld | Closed | Case is closed as Not Upheld |
| Resolved - Partially Upheld | Closed | Case is closed as Partially Upheld |
| Resolved - Upheld | Closed | Case is closed as Upheld |
| Unable to Investigate | Abandoned | Case is closed as Unable to Investigate |
